A Fire and a Shared Passion for Art at the Origin of Objectory

Objectory is the meeting of three people who are united behind a common vision: to restore value and security to our most precious objects. And to protect the data of these objects, whether they are artistic or personal.
A passion for art
For many years, we have been working with artists, galleries, experts, insurers, banks and collectors of valuable objects. It was in this context that we realized how rare it was to meet people who had a collection management tool that satisfied them. We were surprised by the ingenuity of art lovers and have been able to observe many times the artisanal side of this amateur collecting (with Excel files for example). Creativity is in power!
At a time when technologies have never been so present in our lives, it was surprising to note that the documentation of valuable objects remained summary and unsecured.
A fireplace that catches fire
At the same time, it was a fire, in one of our homes, that allowed us to understand what happens if we do not prepare for the occurrence of a disaster affecting our valuable objects. It is also a finding that was made after dozens of interviews with people who have been victims of disasters (such as theft or fire): we are generally very poorly prepared for managing the necessary procedures following an accident. A clear list with the essential data of the objects, such as the value for example (via an invoice), is indeed often lacking.
In this case, the fire that very severely damaged the family home led to the disappearance of many memories (albums, objects, furniture, notebooks, drawings, etc.) including some family trinkets that were the subject of obvious sentimental attachment. Very quickly after the disaster, it was requested to draw up in writing an exhaustive list of all the goods present in the house.
"A good inventory would have solved many problems"
This house being in the family for two generations (with large families in addition), the task therefore proved particularly complex. Even with a good visual memory, it is difficult to remember all the objects that we see daily, not to mention those stored in each closet, each drawer, each box, in the attic, in the cellar, etc. Sometimes we also forget that some have already been given or sold. But it was possible to count on a quality broker who helped us to constitute this list, as well as an estimate of the content made by the expert appointed by the insurance.
But how to describe with precision a family painting inherited from one's parents or grandparents? Such an evaluation can never really reflect the sentimental or even real value of certain objects.
"Our objects tell our lives"
We also understood, through this ordeal, that our most precious objects are often those that make us feel "at home". When we move, or when we are led to live in transitional housing, it is our objects that allow us to feel at home, to connect to our history, to our loved ones. Our conviction was acquired: we underestimate the importance that objects have in our family stories. But it is often when we lose them that we become fully aware of their value.
Objectory: a solution to anticipate a multitude of problems
Nearly a year ago, in the summer of 2024, we began to think about a simple and secure solution. After months of surveys, interviews, meetings with professionals, research, we began to lay the foundations of a simple tool that would transform this chore into child's play. A tool that allows not only to easily document one's most precious possessions, but also to share this information with whoever one wishes.
Objectory is on its way, and this is only the beginning of the adventure.
